British Caenozoic Fossils book review

Recently recieved a copy of British Caenozoic Fossils by the NHM. It is absolutely fantastic. It contains black and white sketches of the specimens in numerous plates. However, if you are looking for a good guide to Caenozoic vertebrates then this may not be the greatest book available but it does cover them fairly well much more than it does in British Mesozoic Fossils . The majority of the book is dedicated to Bivalves,Brachiopods, and Gastropods. At the end of this book the final plates are dedicated to the Pleistocene mammals. Fossil Book rating: ****.

Yarmouth finds 15/9/12

Yesterday was a fantastic day for fossiling at yarmouth. Really low tides meant some good stuff was exposed. Heres a list of the best finds: Carapace, Croc poo, Bone, Bird or turtle beak, Croc tooth frag, and horn or ivory. I picked up fossils from two species of turtle Emys and Trionyx. I will put up some photos to the right of the carapace pieces. The croc tooth frag is a small slither of tooth, not like the croc tooth i picked up last time (They are from Diplocynodon an alligator not a croc but i will refer to any future 'croc' finds as from a crocodile. As for the horn or ivory fragment it looks milky in coulour and smooth with fine lin es running along it. Rating:*****
